A FlokiNET Alternative With Servers in Switzerland

ยท 12 min read

If you are looking for a FlokiNET alternative, you are probably comparing privacy hosts that take crypto and keep signup light. FlokiNET was established in Iceland in 2012 to provide a safe harbour for free speech, a free press and whistleblower projects, and it now runs servers in Romania, Iceland, the Netherlands and Finland. People look elsewhere for a few reasons. They want a server in Switzerland, they want a host whose privacy policy rules out voluntary disclosure, they want clear published rules allowing lawful adult content in Switzerland, or they want better memory value on Packetra's Finland plans from the 4 GB tier up.

We are Packetra, so we are not neutral. To keep this fair, every FlokiNET detail below comes from FlokiNET's own website, terms of service, acceptable use policy, privacy policy and abuse page, checked on 26 October 2026 and listed at the end. We also cover where FlokiNET is the better choice, because for some people it is.

The short version

Both providers sell privacy-focused VPS with DDoS protection and both have servers in Finland. Choose FlokiNET if you want more locations, a longer track record, the widest choice of payment methods, more disk for the money, or a host built around whistleblower and press-freedom projects. Choose a FlokiNET alternative like Packetra if you want a server in Switzerland, a privacy policy that rules out handing data to law enforcement voluntarily, clear published rules allowing lawful adult content in Switzerland, or better memory value on our Finland plans from the 4 GB tier up.

How FlokiNET works

FlokiNET is run by FlokiNET ehf, and its terms are governed by Icelandic law. It sells shared, business and anti-DDoS hosting, VPS, dedicated and GPU servers, colocation and domains, with servers in Romania, Iceland, the Netherlands and Finland. Its homepage lists Norway, Canada and Singapore as coming soon.

  • Signup: its homepage says any valid email address is enough to be a customer and that it does not require personal details or identification. Its privacy policy lists full name, billing information and contact information among the account data it collects and uses.
  • Payment: bank transfer, Bitcoin, Monero, Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum, cash by post, PayPal, paysafecard, Proton Wallet and Wise.
  • DDoS protection: its VPS page says every plan includes filtering with more than 1 Tbps of capacity.
  • Refunds: its terms say all payments are non-refundable but can be placed as account credit. Its VPS page says that if you switch to shared hosting or a dedicated server after a few days of testing, it refunds the VPS in full as account credit.

The biggest difference: Switzerland, and what happens to your account data

FlokiNET covers four countries, and Finland is one we share. What it does not offer is Switzerland. If you want your server under Swiss law, with its own data protection regime outside the EU, a FlokiNET alternative like Packetra gives you that alongside Finland, from the same account. Our guide to Swiss data protection law explains what that framework protects, and our Hosting Jurisdiction Index scores Switzerland, Finland, Romania, the Netherlands and Iceland side by side.

The second difference is in the privacy policies. FlokiNET's says customer data stored on a server needs a court order from the country where it is stored before it is disclosed. The same policy also says FlokiNET may disclose account information to a relevant authority if the terms are breached or to comply with a legal obligation, and may share what it collects where it believes disclosure is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce its legal rights or protect others. It logs website visitors' IP addresses and keeps network access logs for as long as it decides. A FlokiNET alternative like Packetra takes a narrower line: our privacy policy says we act only on valid legal requests from courts in the jurisdiction where your server is, and do not hand customer data to law enforcement voluntarily.

On signup, the two are closer than the policies suggest. FlokiNET's homepage says a valid email address is enough; a Packetra account needs an email address and a password, and we do not ask for ID, a phone number or a postal address. Our guide to no-KYC hosting explains why that matters, and hosting with Monero covers paying through our own BTCPay Server.

VPS prices compared

FlokiNET's VPS page publishes plan details for Romania only; its Finland, Iceland and Netherlands VPS were not priced there when we checked. Both providers price in euros, so the table compares FlokiNET's published Romania plans with ours, matched by memory:

Memory FlokiNET (Romania) Packetra (Finland / Switzerland)
1 to 1.5 GB VPS I: 1 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 20 GB NVMe, 3 TB, EUR 7.99 a month Cloud VPS #1: 1.5 GB RAM, 25 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 9.90 / EUR 13.90 a month
2 to 3 GB VPS II: 2 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 50 GB NVMe, 6 TB, EUR 14.99 a month Cloud VPS #2: 3 GB RAM, 40 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 15.90 / EUR 22.90 a month
4 GB VPS III: 4 GB RAM, 4 vCPU, 90 GB NVMe, 9 TB, EUR 27.99 a month Cloud VPS #3: 4 GB RAM, 60 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 22.90 / EUR 32.90 a month
6 to 7 GB VPS IV: 6 GB RAM, 6 vCPU, 120 GB NVMe, 12 TB, EUR 41.99 a month Cloud VPS #4: 7 GB RAM, 80 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 32.90 / EUR 45.90 a month

FlokiNET is cheaper at entry level and gives more NVMe disk at every size. From 4 GB up, a FlokiNET alternative like Packetra costs less in Finland and gives the same or more memory: EUR 22.90 against EUR 27.99 at 4 GB, and EUR 32.90 for 7 GB against EUR 41.99 for 6 GB. FlokiNET's plans run at 1 Gbit/s with a monthly traffic allowance from 3 TB; ours are unmetered at 1 Gbit/s under a fair-use policy. Our Swiss plans cost more than FlokiNET's Romanian ones, which is the price of a Swiss server. Our guides to VPS hosting in Finland and VPS hosting in Switzerland cover both ranges.

Content rules and complaints

FlokiNET's terms say adult content is not allowed on its Iceland network, and its current public AUP does not state a blanket ban for its other locations. A FlokiNET alternative like Packetra explicitly permits lawful adult content in Switzerland under our acceptable use policy, and on our primary Finland network if you contact support before ordering.

On copyright, the two take a similar line. FlokiNET's abuse page says copyright infringement is handled under the law of the country where the server is, that claims need proper documentation, and that it will not act on DMCA complaints against whistleblower sites. In Switzerland, our copyright claims need an order from a competent Swiss court. On our primary Finland network, complaints are handled under Finnish and EU law, and a US DMCA notice is not acted on without a Finnish court order or equivalent instrument. Our guide to DMCA takedowns and jurisdiction covers how each of our networks handles them, and Finland vs Switzerland helps you choose between our two locations.

Where FlokiNET is the better choice

A FlokiNET alternative is not the right move for everyone. FlokiNET is stronger if you:

  • Need Romania, Iceland or the Netherlands. FlokiNET has four locations to our two, with more announced.
  • Want to pay by cash, paysafecard or a wide range of coins. FlokiNET accepts cash by post, paysafecard, Proton Wallet, Ethereum, Litecoin and Dash as well as Bitcoin and Monero.
  • Want the cheapest entry VPS or more disk. Its Romania VPS starts at EUR 7.99 a month and gives more NVMe storage at every tier.
  • Run a whistleblower or press-freedom project. FlokiNET was founded for exactly that and says it will not act on DMCA complaints against whistleblower sites.
  • Need GPU servers or colocation. FlokiNET sells both.
  • Value a long track record. FlokiNET has run since 2012; we launched in 2026.

Packetra as a FlokiNET alternative

Packetra suits people who want privacy from the first click, paid privately, with a Swiss option and a clear policy on legal requests.

SignupAn email address and a password

No ID, no name, no phone number and no postal address. Bitcoin and Monero go through our own BTCPay Server, so no payment company sits between you and us.

ServersUnmetered KVM VPS in Switzerland and Finland

As a FlokiNET alternative, our Cloud VPS plans start at EUR 9.90 a month in Finland and EUR 13.90 in Switzerland, with full root access, a dedicated IPv4 address, optional IPv6, DDoS protection on IPv4, unmetered 1 Gbit/s and 24/7 support from our own team. New Finland VPS run on hardware we own in Turku, at a data centre that runs on wind and solar power.

RulesClear rules, published per network

A FlokiNET alternative should be clear about legal requests. Packetra is ASPB Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. Our acceptable use policy sets out what each location allows and how copyright complaints are handled, and our privacy policy says we do not hand customer data to law enforcement voluntarily.

Moving from FlokiNET to Packetra

Moving to a FlokiNET alternative works like any server migration:

  1. Order a Cloud VPS in Switzerland or Finland and pay in Monero or Bitcoin.
  2. Lower your DNS TTL now, so the switch takes effect quickly later.
  3. Set up the new server with the same operating system, then copy your data across, for example with rsync over SSH.
  4. Test it, then point your DNS records to the new IP address. Our guide to migrating without downtime covers the cutover.
  5. Cancel at FlokiNET. Its terms say cancellations must be sent in writing, with one month's mutual notice, while its homepage says services are prepaid and can be cancelled by not paying the next bill. Sending a written cancellation covers both.
