A BuyVM Alternative That Doesn't Ask for Your Home Address

ยท 12 min read

If you are looking for a BuyVM alternative, you are leaving one of the best-known budget VPS brands. BuyVM has sold virtual servers since 2010, is known for low prices on its KVM slices, and allows Tor nodes under its rules. In January 2025 it was acquired by Cloudzy AI, and its site now describes it as a division of Cloudzy, jointly managed with Frantech Solutions. People usually switch for a few reasons. They do not want to give a real name and home address to open an account, they want to pay in Monero without a third-party processor, they want DDoS protection included, or they want servers in Switzerland or Finland.

We are Packetra, so we are not neutral. To keep this fair, every BuyVM detail below comes from BuyVM's own website, terms, acceptable use policy and privacy policy, checked on 20 October 2026 and listed at the end. We also cover where BuyVM is the better choice, because for some people it clearly is.

The short version

Choose BuyVM if price is what matters most, if you want servers in the US or Luxembourg, or if you want to run a Tor exit node. Choose a BuyVM alternative like Packetra if you want to sign up with only an email address, pay in Monero through the host's own payment server, get DDoS protection included rather than as an add-on, or host in Finland or Switzerland.

How BuyVM works

BuyVM was founded by Francisco as part of Frantech Solutions and was acquired by Cloudzy AI in January 2025. Its site still references both companies: the About page says BuyVM is part of Frantech Solutions, while the contact page says it is jointly managed by Cloudzy and Frantech Solutions and lists Cloudzy AI Information Technology L.L.C., with an office in Dubai. It sells KVM slices, storage products and network services across its infrastructure in the United States and Luxembourg. Its current KVM slices sales page lists Las Vegas, New York and Luxembourg, while BuyVM's network documentation also lists Miami.

  • Signup: its terms require a legitimate name, surname and residential address, reject P.O. boxes and mail-forwarding addresses, and say registration and orders must be placed from your residential internet connection. Account details must match the payment method. A phone number is not required.
  • Payment: a verified PayPal account, credit and debit cards, cryptocurrency through CoinPayments, and Alipay.
  • DDoS protection: a DDoS-protected IP is a paid add-on at USD 3 a month per IP.
  • Refunds: card and PayPal payments are refundable within 3 days of the initial order payment, through a billing ticket. Its terms say crypto and Alipay payments are not refundable.

The biggest difference: what you hand over to sign up

For many readers, this decides it. BuyVM's terms ask for your legitimate name, surname and residential address, turn away P.O. boxes and mail-forwarding addresses, and require the account details to match the way you pay. They also say registration and orders must come from your residential internet connection, rather than through a VPN, proxy or Tor. That is a sensible fraud policy for a budget host, but it means your real identity and home address sit in the account from the first day.

A Packetra account needs an email address and a password. We do not ask for ID, a phone number or a postal address. If you are looking for a BuyVM alternative because of the signup form, that is the change you get. Our guide to no-KYC hosting explains why that matters.

Payment follows the same pattern. BuyVM takes cryptocurrency through CoinPayments, a third-party processor. As a BuyVM alternative, we run our own BTCPay Server for Bitcoin and Monero, so no payment company sits between you and us. Our guides to hosting with Monero and buying a VPS with crypto cover the payment side.

VPS prices compared

BuyVM publishes its prices in US dollars and Packetra publishes in euros, so the table shows each provider's own figures without conversion. Matched by memory, the plans compare like this:

Memory BuyVM (US / Luxembourg) Packetra (Finland / Switzerland)
1 to 1.5 GB Slice 1024: 1 GB RAM, 20 GB SSD, unmetered, USD 3.50 a month Cloud VPS #1: 1.5 GB RAM, 25 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 9.90 / EUR 13.90 a month
2 to 3 GB Slice 2048: 2 GB RAM, 40 GB SSD, unmetered, USD 7 a month Cloud VPS #2: 3 GB RAM, 40 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 15.90 / EUR 22.90 a month
4 GB Slice 4096: 4 GB RAM, dedicated core, 80 GB SSD, unmetered, USD 15 a month Cloud VPS #3: 60 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 22.90 / EUR 32.90 a month
7 to 8 GB 8 GB: 2 cores, 160 GB SSD, unlimited at 1 Gbit/s, USD 30 a month Cloud VPS #4: 7 GB RAM, 80 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 32.90 / EUR 45.90 a month

BuyVM's listed monthly price is lower at every matched tier, and it gives more disk from 4 GB up. Because the currencies differ, the exact gap depends on the exchange rate, but low prices are what BuyVM is known for. Two things narrow the gap. DDoS protection is a USD 3 a month add-on per IP at BuyVM, while it is included on IPv4 with every Packetra Cloud VPS. And BuyVM's smaller slices share CPU time with other customers: its own page lists the 1 GB and 2 GB slices at roughly 25% and 50% of a physical core on average, and the 512 MB plan at around 15%. Only the 4 GB slice gets a dedicated core. If price is your only test, a BuyVM alternative will rarely win; if privacy and included DDoS protection matter, the comparison looks different. When we checked, the BuyVM slices page also carried an out-of-stock notice pointing buyers to its sister company Cloudzy.

US and Luxembourg, or Finland and Switzerland?

BuyVM's KVM slices are sold in Las Vegas and New York in the United States, and in Luxembourg. A BuyVM alternative like Packetra puts your server in Finland or Switzerland instead. Our guide to hosting outside the US explains what changes when your server leaves the US, our Hosting Jurisdiction Index scores the countries side by side, and Finland vs Switzerland helps you choose between our two locations.

The other practical difference is how complaints are handled. BuyVM's acceptable use policy says that when abuse is reported, the service is taken offline and left suspended, and a support ticket is opened; once you respond, it is reactivated and you have 24 hours to stop the problem. Its terms also let it suspend or cancel a service at any time and for any reason without notice. Its acceptable use policy has no dedicated copyright section, but its wiki explains how to report DMCA and illegal content and says not every report will be actioned, depending on its legitimacy. On our primary Finland network, complaints are handled under Finnish and EU law, and a US DMCA notice is not acted on without a Finnish court order or equivalent instrument. In Switzerland, copyright claims need an order from a competent Swiss court. Our guide to DMCA takedowns and jurisdiction covers how each of our networks handles them.

Where BuyVM is the better choice

A BuyVM alternative is not the right move for everyone. BuyVM is stronger if you:

  • Want the lowest price. A 1 GB slice is USD 3.50 a month and a 512 MB slice is USD 24 a year. We cannot match that.
  • Want to run a Tor exit node. BuyVM allows exit, relay and bridge nodes under its rules; we do not allow Tor exits.
  • Need a server in the US or Luxembourg. We only offer Finland and Switzerland.
  • Want a short refund window on a VPS. BuyVM refunds card and PayPal payments within 3 days of the initial order payment; we offer no money-back guarantee on VPS.
  • Value a long track record. BuyVM has sold servers since 2010; we launched in 2026.

Packetra as a BuyVM alternative

Packetra suits people who want privacy from the first click, paid privately, on servers in Finland or Switzerland.

SignupAn email address and a password

No ID, no name, no phone number and no postal address. Bitcoin and Monero go through our own BTCPay Server, with no third-party processor in between.

ServersKVM virtual machines with DDoS protection included

As a BuyVM alternative, our Cloud VPS plans start at EUR 9.90 a month in Finland and EUR 13.90 in Switzerland, with full root access, a dedicated IPv4 address, optional IPv6, DDoS protection on IPv4 and 24/7 support from our own team. New Finland VPS run on hardware we own in Turku, at a data centre that runs on wind and solar power.

RulesClear rules, published per network

Packetra is ASPB Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. Our acceptable use policy sets out what each location allows and how copyright complaints are handled, and permits lawful adult content in Switzerland, and on our primary Finland network if you contact support before ordering.

Moving from BuyVM to Packetra

Moving to a BuyVM alternative works like any server migration:

  1. Order a Cloud VPS in Finland or Switzerland and pay in Monero or Bitcoin.
  2. Lower your DNS TTL now, so the switch takes effect quickly later.
  3. Set up the new server with the same operating system, then copy your data across, for example with rsync over SSH.
  4. Test it, then point your DNS records to the new IP address. Our guide to migrating without downtime covers the cutover.
  5. Cancel at BuyVM once you have moved. Its terms say cancelling destroys all data and backups and cannot be undone, so copy everything first. An end-of-cycle cancellation runs on the next due date.

FAQ

What is the best BuyVM alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. If you want to sign up with only an email address, pay in Monero through the host's own payment server, get DDoS protection included, or host in Finland or Switzerland, Packetra is built for that. If what you value most is the lowest possible price or a Tor exit node, BuyVM already offers that.

Does BuyVM need my real name and address?

Yes. Its terms require a legitimate name, surname and residential address, reject P.O. boxes and mail-forwarding addresses, and require account details to match the payment method. A BuyVM alternative like Packetra needs only an email address and a password.

Who owns BuyVM?

BuyVM was founded by Francisco as part of Frantech Solutions and acquired by Cloudzy AI in January 2025. Its site now describes it as a division of Cloudzy, jointly managed by Cloudzy and Frantech Solutions.

Is a BuyVM alternative cheaper?

Not if you compare price alone. BuyVM's 4 GB slice is USD 15 a month against EUR 22.90 for our Cloud VPS #3 in Finland. Ours includes DDoS protection on IPv4, which BuyVM sells as a USD 3 a month add-on per IP.

Does Packetra offer a money-back guarantee?

On shared and WordPress hosting, yes, for 30 days. On VPS, no.
