An IncogNET Alternative With Servers in Finland and Switzerland

ยท 11 min read

IncogNET is one of the better-known privacy hosts among people who pay in crypto. It has run since November 2020, first as Incog.Host, accepts Monero through its own BTCPay Server, and opens an account with nothing more than an email address. People look for an IncogNET alternative for a few reasons. They want a host that is not a US company, they want servers in Switzerland or Finland, or they want clearer rules on how legal requests and copyright complaints are handled.

We are Packetra, so we are not neutral. To keep this fair, every IncogNET detail below comes from IncogNET's own website, terms, privacy policy and knowledge base, checked on 19 October 2026 and listed at the end. We also cover where IncogNET is the better choice, because for some people it is.

The short version

Both hosts open an account with only an email address and take Monero through their own BTCPay Server. Choose IncogNET if you want the lower VPS price, servers in the US, Sweden, the Netherlands or Bulgaria, a 72-hour refund window on VPS, or a VPN and hosted email from the same provider. Choose an IncogNET alternative like Packetra if you want a provider that is not a US company, servers in Switzerland or Finland, more memory at the entry and mid tiers, or clearly published, location-specific rules for copyright complaints and foreign takedown demands.

How IncogNET works

IncogNET is run by IncogNET LLC, a company registered in Wyoming in the United States. It was started by its founder, Curtis, and sells shared hosting, KVM VPS, DNS hosting, hosted email, a WireGuard VPN and domains, with VPS locations in the US and Europe.

  • Signup: its terms say the only information it needs to open an account is an email address. Its privacy policy says it may log the IP addresses used for new orders and signups.
  • Payment: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, Dash and Dogecoin through its self-hosted BTCPay Server, other coins through Trocador, plus fiat options including PayPal and bank or card payments. Prices are set in US dollars, with euro prices updated daily.
  • VPS locations: Liberty Lake (Washington), Valley Forge (Pennsylvania) and Kansas City (Missouri) in the US, plus Amsterdam, Stockholm and Sofia in Europe.
  • Refunds: its terms give 72 hours on shared hosting and VPS, no refunds on domains or dedicated servers, and say crypto payments are non-refundable.

The biggest difference: which country's law reaches the company

On signup and payment, IncogNET and Packetra are close. Both ask for nothing more than an email address, and both run their own BTCPay Server for Monero and Bitcoin, so no payment company sits between you and the host. Our guide to no-KYC hosting explains why that matters, and hosting with Monero covers the payment side.

The real difference is the company itself. IncogNET LLC is a US company, and its privacy policy says it may be required to comply with a valid and legally binding order to disclose customer information. Under the CLOUD Act (18 U.S.C. 2713), US service providers covered by the Stored Communications Act can be required through valid US legal process to preserve or disclose data in their possession, custody or control, even when that data is stored outside the United States. Choosing IncogNET's Amsterdam or Stockholm location changes where your server sits, not which country's orders reach the company.

IncogNET's own answer to this is to collect as little as it can. Its privacy policy says it cannot disclose information it does not collect or possess, and that is a fair point: an email-only account limits what any order can reveal. Every provider answers to the law of the country it is registered in, ours included. If you want both the company and the server outside the US, an IncogNET alternative like Packetra is built for that. Our guide to hosting outside the US goes into more detail.

VPS prices compared

IncogNET publishes its prices in US dollars and Packetra publishes in euros, so the table shows each provider's own figures without conversion. Matched by memory, the plans compare like this:

Memory IncogNET (US / Europe) Packetra (Finland / Switzerland)
1 to 1.5 GB 1 GB: 1 vCPU, 20 GB NVMe, 6 TB traffic, USD 7.60 a month Cloud VPS #1: 1.5 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 25 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 9.90 / EUR 13.90 a month
2 to 3 GB 2 GB: 1 vCPU, 30 GB NVMe, 8 TB traffic, USD 12 a month Cloud VPS #2: 3 GB RAM, 40 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 15.90 / EUR 22.90 a month
4 GB 4 GB: 2 vCPU, 50 GB NVMe, 10 TB traffic, USD 20 a month Cloud VPS #3: 60 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 22.90 / EUR 32.90 a month
7 to 8 GB 8 GB: 2 vCPU, 90 GB NVMe, 15 TB traffic, USD 36 a month Cloud VPS #4: 7 GB RAM, 80 GB disk, unmetered, EUR 32.90 / EUR 45.90 a month

IncogNET is cheaper at most sizes, and its 512 MB plan goes lower than anything we sell. Packetra gives more memory at the entry and mid tiers, 1.5 GB against 1 GB and 3 GB against 2 GB, and our 1 Gbit/s plans are unmetered under a fair-use policy. IncogNET's plans come with large monthly traffic allowances and are throttled to 250 Mbit/s if you go over. When we checked, its 4 GB and 8 GB plans were offered in Liberty Lake, Stockholm and Sofia, and its plans from 10 GB up were out of stock in every location.

US and Europe, or Finland and Switzerland?

IncogNET's European locations are in the Netherlands, Sweden and Bulgaria. Ours are in Finland and Switzerland. Switzerland has its own data protection law outside the EU, covered in our guide to Swiss data protection law, and Finland protects the secrecy of communications in its constitution, covered in Finnish hosting law. Our Hosting Jurisdiction Index scores the countries side by side, and Finland vs Switzerland helps you choose between our two locations.

The other practical difference is how complaints are handled. IncogNET's knowledge base says copyright notices are forwarded to customers, its terms ban making copyrighted material public without permission from its US and Netherlands locations, and they let it suspend or terminate a service for any reason without notice. Its privacy policy does not say whether customers are told about legal requests. On our primary Finland network, complaints are handled under Finnish and EU law, and a US DMCA notice is not acted on without a Finnish court order or equivalent instrument. In Switzerland, copyright claims need an order from a competent Swiss court. Our guide to DMCA takedowns and jurisdiction covers how each of our networks handles them.

Where IncogNET is the better choice

An IncogNET alternative is not the right move for everyone. IncogNET is stronger if you:

  • Want the lowest VPS price. IncogNET is cheaper at most sizes, and its 512 MB plan starts at USD 4.62 a month on a longer billing cycle.
  • Need a server in the US, Sweden, the Netherlands or Bulgaria. We only offer Finland and Switzerland.
  • Want a refund window on a VPS. IncogNET gives 72 hours on VPS, though its terms say crypto payments are non-refundable; we offer no money-back guarantee on VPS.
  • Pay in Litecoin, Dash or Dogecoin. IncogNET takes these through its own BTCPay Server; we take Bitcoin and Monero that way and other coins through CoinPayments.
  • Want a longer track record. IncogNET has run since 2020; we launched in 2026.
  • Want a VPN or hosted email from the same provider. IncogNET sells a WireGuard VPN and email hosting alongside its servers.

Packetra as an IncogNET alternative

Packetra suits people who want privacy from the first click, paid privately, with both the company and the server outside the United States.

JurisdictionNot a US company, servers in Finland and Switzerland

Packetra is ASPB Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. Our privacy policy says we act only on valid legal requests from courts in the jurisdiction where your server is, and do not hand customer data to law enforcement voluntarily. Our acceptable use policy sets out what each location allows and how copyright complaints are handled.

ServersKVM virtual machines with more memory at entry level

Our Cloud VPS plans start at EUR 9.90 a month in Finland and EUR 13.90 in Switzerland, with full root access, a dedicated IPv4 address, optional IPv6, DDoS protection on IPv4 and 24/7 support from our own team. New Finland VPS run on hardware we own in Turku, at a data centre that runs on wind and solar power.

PaymentMonero and Bitcoin in-house, or a card

Bitcoin and Monero go through our own BTCPay Server. Other coins go through CoinPayments, and you can also pay by card, PayPal or Wise.

Moving from IncogNET to Packetra

Moving to an IncogNET alternative works like any server migration:

  1. Order a Cloud VPS in Finland or Switzerland and pay in Monero or Bitcoin.
  2. Lower your DNS TTL now, so the switch takes effect quickly later.
  3. Set up the new server with the same operating system, then copy your data across, for example with rsync over SSH.
  4. Test it, then point your DNS records to the new IP address. Our guide to migrating without downtime covers the cutover.
  5. Cancel at IncogNET before it renews. Its terms say renewal invoices go out 10 days before the renewal date, and accounts with auto-debit enabled are charged on that date.

FAQ

What is the best IncogNET alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. If you want a provider that is not a US company, servers in Finland or Switzerland, or more memory for the money at entry level, Packetra is built for that. If what you value most is the lowest price or a server in the US, IncogNET already offers that.

Is IncogNET a US company?

Yes. Its privacy policy says IncogNET LLC is a business organized in the United States and registered in Wyoming.

Does IncogNET need my real name?

No. Its terms say the only information it requires to open an account is an email address. Packetra works the same way, with an email address and a password.

Is an IncogNET alternative cheaper?

Not on price alone. IncogNET is cheaper at most sizes: its 4 GB VPS is USD 20 a month against EUR 22.90 for our Cloud VPS #3 in Finland. Ours gives more memory at the entry and mid tiers and unmetered 1 Gbit/s traffic.

Does Packetra offer a money-back guarantee?

On shared and WordPress hosting, yes, for 30 days. On VPS, no.
