Looking for a BitLaunch Alternative? How Packetra Compares

ยท 10 min read

BitLaunch is one of the best-known ways to pay for a VPS with cryptocurrency: hourly billing, a signup that needs only an email and password, and 27 advertised locations. People look for a BitLaunch alternative for a handful of reasons. They want to pay in Monero, they want their server away from the big US clouds, they would rather pay per billing cycle than keep a balance topped up, or they want to know which country's law their server sits under.

We are Packetra, so we are not neutral. To keep this fair, every BitLaunch detail below comes from BitLaunch's own website, terms and policies, checked on 15 October 2026 and listed at the end. We also cover where BitLaunch is the better choice, because for some jobs it is.

The short version

Choose BitLaunch for short-lived servers billed by the hour, locations across the US and Asia, an API, Windows or GPU servers, or Tor exit nodes. Choose a BitLaunch alternative like Packetra if you want to pay in Monero, want a server in Finland or Switzerland (BitLaunch lists neither), would rather pay per billing cycle than keep a balance topped up, or run a long-term server such as a website or mail server.

How BitLaunch works

BitLaunch is run by Liber Systems Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, and its terms are governed by English law. It sells two kinds of server through one dashboard:

  • Its own BitLaunch servers, in the Netherlands, Romania, the UK, Dallas, Los Angeles and Chicago, plus Singapore since May 2026.
  • Servers from partner clouds: DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode, which cover its other locations. BitLaunch's terms and acceptable use policy say you must also follow the partner's own terms and policies when you run a server there.

You pay by topping up a balance with Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum through BLPay, BitLaunch's in-house payment system, and each server is charged by the hour, up to its displayed monthly price, which BitLaunch says is the most a server costs in a calendar month. BitLaunch's terms say payments are non-refundable unless the terms or the law provide otherwise. When your balance reaches USD 0.00, your servers are stopped and suspended for 48 hours, or another period BitLaunch chooses, and then permanently destroyed. From 1 August 2026, BitLaunch raised prices by 20% for new and resized servers on its own hardware.

Why people look for a BitLaunch alternative

Your server may still be on a US cloud

Paying in cryptocurrency changes how you pay, not who runs your server. If you pick a DigitalOcean, Vultr or Linode location through BitLaunch, the server runs on that company's cloud, its terms and acceptable use policy apply, and all three are US companies. A host's legal base matters as much as where the server sits, as our guide to hosting outside the US explains. BitLaunch's own servers are run by BitLaunch itself, so check which kind a location uses before you launch.

No Monero

BitLaunch takes Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum through BLPay, its own payment system, so no outside payment processor sits in the middle. It does not list Monero. All three coins record payments on a public ledger by default, so anyone who links an address to you can follow the payment. If you want a payment that is private by default, look for a BitLaunch alternative that takes Monero. Our guide to buying a VPS with crypto compares the coins.

A balance that can run out

Hourly billing is ideal for short jobs, and because each BitLaunch server is capped at its displayed monthly price, a long-running server costs no more than that figure in any calendar month. The catch for a website or service that runs for months is the balance itself: under BitLaunch's terms, once it reaches zero your servers are suspended for 48 hours, or another period BitLaunch chooses, and then destroyed. If you would rather pay for a month, a year or three years at a time, a BitLaunch alternative with fixed billing cycles suits you better.

Knowing how complaints are handled

BitLaunch is an English company, and on partner servers the policies of US companies apply as well. BitLaunch says on its blog that it complies with copyright notices, but neither its terms nor its acceptable use policy set out how. Both describe a general abuse process, and the policy says that "in most cases, the offending server will be taken offline and left suspended." If you want to know in advance how a notice will be handled where your server is, choose a BitLaunch alternative that publishes it.

Where BitLaunch is the better choice

A BitLaunch alternative is not always the right call. BitLaunch is stronger if you:

  • Need a server for hours or days. Hourly billing beats any monthly plan for tests, short jobs and one-off tasks.
  • Need locations we do not have, such as the US, Asia or Australia.
  • Automate servers through an API, a command-line tool or SDKs.
  • Want Windows or GPU servers ready to launch. Its GPU servers run on Vultr.
  • Want to run a Tor exit node, which BitLaunch allows on its own servers and we do not.
  • Value a longer track record. BitLaunch has been around since 2017; we launched in 2026.

Packetra as a BitLaunch alternative

Packetra suits long-running servers where jurisdiction and payment privacy matter more than hourly flexibility.

PaymentMonero and Bitcoin, on our own BTCPay Server

We process Bitcoin and Monero on our own self-hosted BTCPay Server, so no payment company sits between you and us. Signup takes an email address and a password, and we do not ask for ID. More in our guide to hosting with Monero.

JurisdictionFinland and Switzerland, not a US cloud

New Finland VPS run on hardware we own, colocated in Turku, and Packetra itself is ASPB Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. Our acceptable use policy sets out how each network handles copyright complaints. On our primary Finland network, where new VPS are placed, a US DMCA notice is not acted on without a Finnish court order. In Switzerland, copyright claims need an order from a Swiss court. On our second Finland network, leased from Hetzner, the upstream forwards DMCA notices with a deadline of about 24 hours. Our guide to DMCA takedowns and jurisdiction explains why that matters, and Finland vs Switzerland helps you choose between them.

ServersFull KVM virtual machines at fixed prices

Our Cloud VPS plans run from 2 vCPU, 1.5 GB RAM and 25 GB at EUR 9.90 a month in Finland (EUR 13.90 in Switzerland) up to 5 vCPU, 7 GB and 80 GB, with a 1 Gbit/s unmetered connection or 10 Gbit/s metered plans. Every plan includes a dedicated IPv4 address, IPv6 on request, DDoS protection on IPv4 and 24/7 support from our own team.

EmailMail servers allowed, under clear rules

Outbound port 25 is closed by default. We open it on request on Cloud VPS #2 and above, or on #1 with a longer billing cycle, and set reverse DNS for you, so you can follow our guide to running an email server on a VPS.

Moving from BitLaunch to Packetra

Moving to a BitLaunch alternative works like any server migration:

  1. Order a Cloud VPS in Finland or Switzerland and pay in Monero or Bitcoin.
  2. Lower your DNS TTL now, so the switch takes effect quickly later.
  3. Set up the new server with the same operating system, then copy your data across, for example with rsync over SSH.
  4. Test it, then point your DNS records to the new IP address. Our guide to migrating without downtime covers the cutover.
  5. Destroy the BitLaunch server once traffic has moved, so it stops drawing on your balance. BitLaunch's terms make payments non-refundable, so top up only what the move needs.

FAQ

What is the best BitLaunch alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. If you want Monero payments and a server in Finland or Switzerland, paid per billing cycle, Packetra is built for that. If you mainly want hourly billing in more locations, DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode, the clouds BitLaunch resells, also sell directly, on their own signup and payment terms.

Is BitLaunch a reseller?

Partly. It runs its own servers in seven locations and also resells servers from DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode, whose terms and acceptable use policies apply alongside BitLaunch's own.

Does BitLaunch accept Monero?

Not as of October 2026. Its pages list Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum, paid through its in-house system, BLPay, and do not mention Monero.

Does Packetra offer hourly billing?

No. Cloud VPS plans are billed monthly or for longer cycles, which suits servers that run for months. For a server you need for a few hours, an hourly provider is the better fit.

Is a BitLaunch alternative cheaper?

BitLaunch does not list prices on its public plan pages. Each server has an hourly rate and a monthly maximum, so compare that maximum for the plan you need with our monthly price. Our Cloud VPS start at EUR 9.90 a month, and from 1 August 2026 BitLaunch raised prices by 20% for new and resized servers on its own hardware.
