You can manage your files easily through the cPanel portal. In this guide, we will walk you through how to use the cPanel File Manager by creating your first website file.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find the cPanel File Manager<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First, under the Files <\/strong>section, click File Manager<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open the public_html Folder<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Next, the File Manager will open in a new tab. All your website files live inside the public_html<\/code> folder. Click it to open it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create Your First File in cPanel File Manager<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Next, click the +File<\/strong> button at the top and name it index.html<\/code>. Web servers automatically look for files named index (.html, .htm, or .php) as the default page to load. Click Create New File<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edit Your File with the HTML Editor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Next, click on your newly created index.html<\/code> so it is highlighted in blue. Then click HTML Editor<\/strong> in the toolbar and click Edit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, write your content into the editor and click the Save icon (floppy disk) in the top left corner. This saves your changes to index.html<\/code>. You can now visit your domain directly and the web server will load your new page automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I upload files instead of creating them?<\/strong>
Yes. Click the Upload button in the File Manager toolbar to upload files directly from your computer. You can upload individual files or compressed archives and extract them on the server.

What is the public_html folder?<\/strong>
This is the root directory for your website. Any files placed here are publicly accessible through your domain. Subfolders inside public_html become paths on your website, for example public_html\/images<\/code> becomes yourdomain.com\/images<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good to Know<\/strong>
The File Manager is great for quick edits and small uploads. However, for bulk file transfers we recommend using an FTP client like FileZilla as it handles large uploads more reliably. Additionally, always keep a backup of your files before making changes. If you accidentally delete or overwrite something, you can restore from your hosting backups.
